The Bedtime Tag

Everyone loves a blogger tag... so here's a new one from me - The Bedtime Tag. I decided that I would write myself up a post to take part, and start my own blogger chain by nominating some fellow bloggers to do the same!

Ten questions for me to answer

Describe your usual bedtime routine.

I'm not going to lie, I am terrible when it comes to having a good routine. Especially when pregnant or trying to enjoy some much needed 'me time' when the children are asleep.

Both of my pregnancies saw me suffer with pregnancy insomnia; which meant I was often up until the small hours of the morning doing various things - from writing to housework - because I couldn't sleep; even though I tried to behave myself!

These days my routine usually involves a couple of baby nappy changes, a quick drink and a shed load of breastfeeding before tucking Little L up in her Sleepyhead inside her SnuzPod2 and heading to bed myself.

What are your favourite pyjamas?

I absolutely love my spaghetti strap maternity and nursing nightdress from Mothercare. It is both comfortable and practical, and I am glad to know that I will be able to continue using it once Little L arrives.

At this time of year though, as the nights are chilly, I also am partial to wearing the new pyjamas that John bought me for Christmas - a set of Alice in Wonderland Cheshire Cat themed fluffy jim jams! They are both comfortable and cosy and of course they have my favourite character on them too. I am so glad my husband knows me so well!

What is your current bedtime reading?

I am lucky if I get any chance to read anything these days. I can't remember the last time I picked up a book. Mostly I read a couple of blog posts from some of my favourite bloggers before I head off to sleep.

I am going to make an extra effort to get some reading in however, as John bought be Phil Collins' Autobiography for Christmas, and I really want to get stuck in!

What would I find on your bedside table?

On top of my bedside table is a lamp - as I'm sure is the same in most people's homes; my Pregnacare pregnancy vitamins - so I remember to take them; my Colief mum-to-be cream - which is part of my morning and evening routine; my Cussons Bump spritz - which I occasionally use to try and aid my attempts at sleep; and my Secret Saviours day gel and night cream - because they too are part of my morning and evening routines.

Next to it I also have a night light that spins and projects stars and moons onto the walls and ceiling. You may think this is a bit odd, but to save waking me up fully during those inevitable night feeds, I switch it on to feed Little L by.

In the drawer is the usual rubbish - spare hair ties, random spare batteries and for whatever reason I also have my Polaroid camera in there too!

Underneath in the cubby part of the beside table, I keep all my slippers. I have many pairs, and it seems a sensible use of the space to keep them there.

What scent makes you sleepy?

I love the smell of Johnson's baby shampoo in my daughter's hair... It brings back such fond memories of her snuggling into my chest with that new baby smell mixed in with the smell of the shampoo I had washed her hair with at bath time.

Sometimes she would fall asleep on my chest before I moved her to her Moses basket, and when she did the soft sighs and deep breathing would always make me sleepy. Now the scent brings back those memories and makes me feel sleepy!

Now though I also have that glorious smell of newborn baby to enjoy. If I could bottle that smell and keep it forever it would be both amazing and also make me rich!

What is your usual bedtime and wakeup time?

Bedtime these days is dictated by my newborn baby. Once she has had her last evening feed - usually around 11:30pm - I will head to bed.

Wake up time is usually whenever my toddler heads into my bedroom and wakes me up. Most of the time this means I am up some time around 08:30am.

Of course having a breastfed newborn baby means that at least once I will be woken up by a tiny human squeaking at me for some milk!

What are your top three bedtime products?

1. My Original Theraline maternity pillow. I didn't know what I was missing until I had it.
2. My Secret Saviours night cream. If you haven't already read my review, you should! This stuff not only smells great but it works wonders.
3. My memory foam pillows that my hubby bought from Primark. When I am not lying my head on my Original Theraline, I love the way that my memory foam pillows make me feel super comfy, and I have never woken up with a bad neck (which is more than I can say for other pillows I have used!)

What is your most common sleeping position?

When I was pregnant I didn't have much choice in the way I would lay to sleep, as I had a massive bump to consider and you are also told to ensure you don't sleep on your back. This meant that, despite my usual love of sleeping on my front - and occasionally my back - I had little choice but to sleep on my side.

Luckily I had my Original Theraline. This made my psoition the most comfortable that it could be, and even now I am still using it and laying in the same position I did when I was pregnant.

Do you have anything you like to take to bed with you?

Does my husband count? Haha!

I used to have a Me to You Tatty Teddy that I took to bed with me - a comfort thing I guess. As I have gotten older, he sits on a shelf instead!

These days I tend to make sure that I have a couple of spare muslins, nappies, baby wipes, nappy cream and a spare set of clothes (for me and Little L) for any incidences that occur during the night feeds!

What is your worst bedtime habit?

While I was pregnant and not sleeping very well, I was terrible for going to bed and then spending ages either updating my blog or checking across my social media platforms. I am pretty sure I am not the only one that does this. I find that as I lie in bed, some of the best ideas for posts or things that I want to write pop into my head. I kept using the excuse that I was preparing for the imminent arrival of our baby, and writing so I didn't to in those early days when we were first settling in.

Although I am better now - as any sleep I can get is a miracle at the moment - I am still constantly scrolling through social media and spending too much time there instead of trying to sleep.
