Wedding Anniversary Gifts | Gift Guide | Me Becoming Mum

When I got married I promised to love and cherish my husband for the rest of our lives; and seven years on so much has changed but my love for him is only getting stronger. He has been my rock through so many situations; and I feel so lucky to have him by my side.

One way I am able to show my appreciation for how awesome he is every day is to buy the perfect gift for him on our anniversary. Although there is a yearly "traditional" gift choice, sometimes I like to think outside the box... as does he. So here are a few of my favourite gift ideas for your spouse whatever anniversary you are celebrating.

Something Personalised

A Personalised Wooden Chopping Board

The kitchen is somewhere that many of us often spend a lot of time and in my house John is the chef and I am the baker (although I do occasionally cook too!) Finding a gift that is both personal and practical is always good, especially as at this stage in our lives together John and I have accumulated pretty much everything we need. The lovely personalised wooden cutting board from Personalized Cart* fits the bill perfectly. It is made from environmentally friendly solid wood and comes in a number of different designs to suit every couple (and even some other designs too!)

Getting your gift personalised is free, and you can choose from three different sizes meaning you can choose one to fit both your relationship and your kitchen at just the click of a button. Personalized Cart also offer a wide range of other products, which means that even if chopping boards aren't your thing you are sure to find something that your partner will love.

A Wooden Postcard

In my Mother's Day gift guide earlier this year I shared a gorgeous personalised wooden flower from Kent Made and now I have another gorgeous item from their range to show you. These personalised anniversary postcards* are fab, and as you can choose the personalisation, they can be a gift for whoever you choose. I enjoy having things to commemorate the day I married the love of my life, and this is such a lovely way to do it.

Gifts for Him and Her

Glassware

John and I love to have a little tipple every now and again, but we both like different things. For me, a lovely gin and tonic or fruity wine will do the trick, whilst John is partial to a cold glass of beer and occasionally cider. The amazing Mr Right and Mrs Always Right glass set from Find Me a Gift* are perfect for us, as they fit both of our drink preferences... but not only that the inscription is perfect (although I’m not sure John agrees, haha!)

There are many other gifts available on Find Me a Gift too, from keyrings to naming your very own star (which I think is seriously cool!) so I'm pretty sure that you will find it difficult to choose exactly what to buy... but at least you know you will find something for any anniversary or even birthday!

Something Unique

Cufflinks

When we very ocassionally go out together, I like to dress up in a dress and high heels, and John slips into a shirt and trousers. The perfect accessories for these occasions make great gifts for anniversaries like his new Dobell cufflinks* in the shape of a cricket bat and cricket ball. John has always loved cricket, from playing to watching and so they are the perfect fit for him. There are loads of designs available though, as well as plenty of other accessories and gift ideas on Dobell's site; so be sure to go and check it out.

Love Coupons

I absolutely love these LoveCoups coupons that I came across via Instagram and they make a perfect anniversary gift for that special person in your life. There are so many different options to choose from; including date nights, couple time, giving up control of the TV controller and more. Simply choose twenty that suit your partner and you and within a week you can have your very own coupon book for them to cash in. Plus if you visit their site at the moment you can use SPRING15 to get 15% off

A Bottle of Wine

Not everyone drinks alcohol but as a couple that do, this gift from my grandparents was perfect. Not only is it a lovely bottle of red wine but it is from the year we married making it personal too!

Relive a Memory (or Two)

Date Night Meal for Two

For our honeymoon, John and I spent two weeks in Cyprus eating amazing Greek food and falling in love with the cuisine. The 'main' gift that I have given John this year is in three parts. The first is a table booked in a Greek restaurant... just the two of us! Yes that's right, a date night meal for two completely child-free. Thanks to my in-laws Iaws I was able to organise to drop the girls off to them and enjoy some long over-due alone time with my husband. #winning

Theatre Tickets

Different people have different memories of those early dates that you went on with your partner. For me, it is all the time we spent in London seeing different artists live at the O2 like Usher; and watching theatre productions of some amazing plays including Phantom of the Opera and Woman in Black. This year's 'main' gift to John also included tickets to the Theatre Royal Windsor showing of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats. Neither of us have seen it before (apart from on DVD!) so are super excited to be able to go and enjoy a child-free date night and watch it. The tickets weren't too expensive either, which is always a bonus!

A Night Away From the Kids

The final part of my 'main' gift for John this year is a night in the same room we stayed in on our wedding night, at Mercure Thames Lodge, the same hotel where our wedding reception was held. I am not only excited to be able to share those memories with him (and have breakfast there, something we didn't get chance to have last time as we were on an early flight out for our honeymoon!) but I have organised for the girls to stay with their grandparents... so it's not only a child-free date night but no wake up calls for one child or another needing us! As gifts go, I think this is a pretty good one!

A Charm

John's gift to me this year was a beautiful charm for my Pandora bracelet. It is perfect for me as an anniversary gift for two reasons.

  1. The colour under the silver is about as close to our wedding burgundy and you can get.

  2. Its name is "encased in love" which couldn't be more apt.

Pandora, Chamilia and others all offer such a wide range of choices when it comes to charms, that you are bound to be able to find one that suits your anniversary. I love that I have so many memories all collected together on my Pandora bracelet, from the birth of my girls to Mother's Day to special holidays.

For Relaxing

Bath Oils

If, like me, you enjoy a nice soak in the bath (preferably without child invasion) then there is no such thing as too many bath bombs, fishers, bubbles and oils. That's why Olverum bath oil* makes the perfect gift at any time of year, but especially for anniversaries! With its a'll natural ingredients including lemon, like, lavender and more this bath oil not only smells great but definitely adds to a relaxing atmosphere at bath time!

Don't Forget the Card!

This year John surprised me by having not only chosen, but written, a lovely anniversary card for me... something that he can often forget to do. If like him you are prone to forgetting the all important finishing touch of a card, Hallmark* have your back. There are so many different cards to choose from, no matter who you are buying for.

So whether you are looking for cards for your spouse, or even your parents or friends, there is something for everyone. Choose from funny cards, brightly coloured cards, pop-up cards and so much more in the Hallmark card range and know that all you need to do is remember to write it!

There are so many ideas to fit any couple when it comes to anniversary gifts, and they don't always have to be "obvious" ones. Hopefully this post has given you some inspiration, so when it comes to your next anniversary you can direct your partner to the best gift to buy, or even choose something perfect for them from you.

If you do decide to go down the traditional route, I have created an image of the anniversary gifts by year list below. Feel free to add a new pin on Pinterest by clicking the "Pin it" button. Photos by Joshua Earle Photography.
