I can't quite believe I have an actually preschooler… that my youngest daughter is almost 4, and will be starting school next year! That aside, here are a few top 2020 Christmas gift ideas for preschoolers; to keep your 3 and 4 year olds happy on Christmas day.

The rule of 7

Many of us have a home full of "stuff" and Christmas can easily become a time when it gets worse.

This year, more than ever (especially because of the Covid-19 pandemic wreaking havoc on jobs and finances) I believe the rule of 7 is a great way to work on a budget, as well as limit and prioritise gifts within the following 7 groups:

The Rule of 7

Something they need

For school or long walks… take your pick

An insulated water bottle

If you've seen our amazing walks in the Lake District you'll understand this one! It's always worth investing in useful gifts and a Klean Kanteen 12oz Kid Kanteen* fits the bill. Perfect for insulating drinks on long, warm walks and of course they are pink and purple with unicorns which is bound to be a winner. They come in different colours and designs though, so don't worry if the one I chose isn't suitable for your child - you're bound to find one that is.

Something they want

A bit of nostalgia

Sylvanian Families

If you, like me, grew up with Sylvanian Families then gifting them to your children is bound to bring back fond memories. With sets to suit every budget, you are bound to find a suitable gift amongst the varied range for your preschooler. This Sylvanian Families Baby Ropeway Park* is the perfect size for a child like Pickle, and a great starter set if you're going to start them off collecting just like we did as children. It's available to buy at Smyths Toys, Argos and of course online from Amazon†.

Interactive play

Nuzzy Luvs

Now I have to say, I am not the biggest fan of interactive toys. I dislike noisy toys almost as much as I hate mess… but Nuzzy Luvs* from Bandai are different. I mean, they are so cute! They move, make noises and respond to you and I know that Pickle is going to lose her mind when she finds this on Christmas day. The full range from a monkey called Snuggler to this cat named Peaches are currently available from Smyths Toys.

Something to wear

Which they'll love

Their favourite ANimal

Sometimes the practical clothes gifts are the best ones. However, just because you're getting something useful (like clothes in the next size up for them to grow into) doesn’t mean it can't be a gift they love. These days you can get clothes in a child's favourite colour, or complete with their favourite animal and you will be well on your way to putting a quick, easy (and mostly budget-friendly!) smile on your preschooler's face.

Because you love it

Sports tops

When I say you… in this case I mean John. He is an Everton supporter (much to his Chelsea supporting dad's dismay) and so buying the children tops with some form of Everton badge on was always going to be a winner. Don't forget, last season's will be cheaper, so check the sale, or even outlet, to see if your children's sizes are available.

Something to read

A fun, brightly coloured book

As an adult, you may be a fan of books like The Da Vinci Code, so may be surprised to discover that Wild Symphony* is written by the same author - Dan Brown. Don't let that discourage you though, this is an amazing book for children. It's fun, humorous and can be hooked up to an app to enjoy accompanying music too. You can order Wild Symphony on Amazon† and the app is free to download!

Something to do

Messy play and have some fun

GelliBaff

Whilst I personally wouldn't make a whole bath of Simpson Kids Gelli Baff* this sensory, messy play gift will be great in a washing up bowl and Pickle is going to love it. The best part is they do so many different colours you can pick your wee one's fave. This is a gift which can be delivered straight to your door from Smyths Toys and Amazon†.

Something for them

Role play fun

Ice cream counter

This Melissa & Doug Ice Cream Counter* is going to go down a storm. I love wooden toys, I have found that they have been the most durable, despite how rough my children play and we may as well have shares in Melissa & Doug we've bought so many of their wooden toys over the years. This ice cream counter is suitable for children age 3+ and I know that Pickle is going to love role-playing with the set alongside the wooden kitchen they've had for yonks. It's easy enough to order in time for Christmas too, and is available from Very, Precious Little One and Amazon†.

Something for family

It's all fun and games

Banana Blast

Games you can play as a family are always a winner. They are a great way to encourage socialising, as well as get children away from technology and enjoying family time. Even better if it is a simple came like Banana Blast* which can be picked up and played by the younger members of the family.
If you've ever played Pop-up Pirate, then you will know how this works. It’s a similar concept. Roll the die, play your turn and stick a banana (or two) in. However, if you put it into the wrong hole, the whole lot springs back out at you. It's currently available for the best price from Argos, Smyths Toys and Amazon†.

So, with just a few weeks until Christmas, there's a few top picks for 2020 Christmas gifts for preschoolers. I hope amongst them you now have all the inspiration you need to get your Christmas shopping done, despite the crazy year we've had this year.

Wishing you a very Happy Christmas from my family and me this year!
