We have just over one month until Christmas, and so begins the countdown with the first gift guide; for him!

This year I am doing my Christmas gift guides a little differently. I am building them around the “7 Gifts” idea. Read on to discover what the “7 Gifts” idea is, and 2019's top picks for each type of gift for him.

What is the "7 Gifts" idea?

How many of us have a house full of ‘stuff’ already? How many times have your children had a pile of gifts on their birthday or at Christmas some of which never see the light of day again?

The “7 Gifts” idea is designed to cut down on waste, and ensure your family receive useful gifts and memories too! The image below details the seven categories of the “7 Gifts” idea. (Feel free to pin it to Pinterest and share with friends and family!)

The "7 Gifts" Idea

Something they need

Power bank

John spends a lot of time on trains The journey to and from home in particular is over 3 hours. I always worry his phone will run out of battery, and I won't hear from him. With a 25000mAh power bank† I don't need to worry anymore. The power in these little blocks is enough for more than one full charge. It isn't a cheap, but it's a worthwhile gift idea for him! If the man in your life does a lot of travelling why not pick one up for him as well?

Shaving kit

Unless you man likes to grow a mustache and beard (my uncle does… I’m not a fan!) pretty much every man will need a razor of some description To get the perfect close shave, why not invest in the amazing Personal Barber kit*? With everything from a luxury synthetic hair shaving brush (which is SO soft!) to the classic safety razor this kit has everything your man will need to get to grips with the perfect morning routine. There is nothing quite like placing a kiss on the freshly shaven, super smooth face of the man you love.

A coat

Looking for super practical gifts for him? I know I do, we have enough ‘stuff’. Living in the north of England means it gets cold and (very) wet! With this Regatta men's jacket† I've made sure John has a a lightweight option for when the weather is wet but a little less chilly. You'd be surprised at how inexpensive the options available are, but still offering good quality protection from the weather.

Something they want

(Or you know they'll love!)

A CD

John very rarely asks for anything, but when he does I'm lucky if it's something below £100 *serious eye-roll*! This year though he asked for Lionel Richie's Tuskegee†. Obviously these days most people have gone down the digital route; but I still think a CD is a great gift idea, and although it may be considered ‘classic’ or 'old school' John and I would rather have a physical copy over a digital one anyway!

The Amazing Mystery Box*

Have you heard of The Amazing Mystery Box before? No? Now you have… and it's an awesome company! As far as gifts for him go there is a wide range available to suit a variety of budgets. I've got the Star Wars Death Star mystery box* and I know that John is going to love it. From rucksacks to cake moulds and toys to mugs there is no shortage of awesome Star Wars themed gifts inside.

Something to wear

Hugo Boss: Boss Bottled

I'm pretty sure every man has his "scent”! For John it is Hugo Boss Bottled. When choosing gifts for him, picking out Hugo Boss Bottled after shave† and the matching Hugo Boss Bottled after shave balm† was a given. This year I bought the two individually as that worked out the best value for money, however in the past I have often bought gift sets instead!

When it comes to aftershave and their additional products, I have a couple if pieces of advice:

  • Don't shop last minute. Whilst you may still find the brand you're after on offer now, wait until the weekend before Christmas and the price is likely to hike!

  • Shop around. Whilst I found the best deals for these two products on Amazon there are a number of other shops where you may find a better deal from The Perfume Shop to Boots.

  • Don't forget to check gift sets. Whilst this year the best deal for me was buying the after shave and balm individually, you may find a better deal on buying the two products together. Some sets come with dehoderant spray and/or body wash too.

A jumper or hoodie

It's important to make sure you buy Christmas gifts for him which are not only useful, but also season appropriate. Christmas (and John's birthday!) both fall during the winter months, and a hoodie or jumper are ideal gift ideas for him. For some reason his jumpers and hoodies all seem to be on their last legs threads, so I've ordered this Regatta Men's fleece†. They're inexpensive and come in a variety of colours so I'm sure you can find something to suit the man in your life too!

Something to drink (or eat!)

Mini gin selection

What better gift at Christmas than a little tipple… and this il Gusto gin miniatures gift set* is ideal, as it covers a variety of bases allowing the recipient to test out everything from rhubarb to Turkish delight flavoured gin. Once they choose their favourite you can head back to il Gusto to order a larger bottle of that flavour for their birthday. You're sure to put a smile on the face of the man in your life with this gin gift set.

Whisky

A warming sip of whisky is a Friday night staple for my father-in-law (and many other men I'd think!) so a bottle of Tomatin Highland single malt Scotch whisky* is obviously the perfect Christmas gift for him. From their sweet 43% alc./vol. Legacy to the smooth, creamy 46% alc./vol. 36 year old whiskey and everything in between, Tomatin offer a range of whiskys to suit every man's tastebuds. Plus, their whiskys are award winning and from the U.K. winner, winner (literally!) If you're outside of the U.K. though they do have stockists worldwide, so you can still treat your partner to this lush Scotch whisky.

Warming drinks and yummy snacks

You can't go wrong when looking for Christmas gifts for him by shopping at Whittard! Their gorgeous tins are elegant and stylish, adding a little luxury to this Christmas gift guide! Plus, what could be better at Christmas that Christmas flavoured goodies? From the Christmas pudding flavoured, soft, buttery biscuits* to the rich, hazelnut Chritmas coffee* you are bound to put a smile on his face with these gift ideas.

Something to do

Taskmaster: The Board Game*

John can't be the only guy to love Taskmaster (to be fair I love watching it with him too!) Bring home the programme with Taskmaster: The Board Game*. With exclusive tasks from Alex Horne, a fold-out Taskmaster house and even a Taskmaster trophy there is so much to love about this board game. Plus, you can buy it on Amazon†.

Something for me

Photo gifts

I really don't think there is a better Christmas gift for him (or her!) than a photo gift.

Something to keep forever.

Something to cherish memories of a moment captured in time.

Did you know that you can shop for gifts like their amazing photo blocks*, snowglobes* and even coasters* at Funky Pigeon? They don't just do fun, personalised cards! Using your own photos you can create the perfect gift for the man in your life and give him memories to enjoy with a smile on his face this Christmas.

Personalised beer

Personalised gifts are always a winner, and a great way to put a smile on anyone's face. For something a little more unusual, why not buy this fab “DAD” personalised beer pack*? Not only do you get three tasty beer bottles for your dad to drink; but the labels can be personalised with his name too! If you dad isn't a beer fan, The Personalised Gift Shop had a variety of other personalised gifts to choose from so all you have to do is scroll through and take your pick.

Personalised glassware

Personalised gifts for him don't just have to be in drink form though. The Gift Experience have these lovely personalised beer glasses* which will no doubt suit a variety of men. In addition, why not add a little message to be engraved into the glass. I went a little cheeky and had “To the greatest Grandad, a new glass to help you work on your six pack" engraved on these! If 3 beer glasses aren’t suited to your partner, dad or grandad; don't panic! The Gift Experience offer everything from homeware such as cushions and frames to books and sports items; so you're bound to find him something to suit his tastes!

Something for family

Interaction

A family movie night is all well and good but it you, like us, are trying to reduce screen time and spend time together a board game is the way to go! Interaction* is a great family-friendly option! Don't worry about losing technology altogether though, as Interaction is the perfect hybrid combining the board game with an app! You can even design your own game figures with the provided playing pieces, sticker eyes and sticker mouths.

All in all I think the “7 Gifts” idea is a great one, ensuring that you vary the gifts bought and don't end up wasting money on more unnecessary ‘stuff’. I hope that with these gift ideas for him, within the seven categories, you no have everything you need to get your Christmas shopping underway in time for Christmas.

Wishing you a very Happy Christmas from my family and me this year!
