What's On in Carlisle 2023 | Christmas Events

Christmas is my favourite time of year! Every year we love to get festive and attend local events for the 2023 Christmas season. From the Christmas Market in the city centre to wreath making workshops, I've collated everything you need to know about Christmas events coming up in Carlisle.

Events in November

Carlisle Christmas Light Switch-On

Where? Carlisle City Centre

When? Sunday 19th November, 15:00-17:30

Chesney Hawkes is headlining this year's Christmas Light Switch-On in town. If you don't want to hang around in the cold, the lights will be switched on at 17:00, so head into town for then!

Festive Wreath Making Workshop

Where? Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery

When? Wednesday 29th November, 18:30-21:00

Tickets cost £55, which includes all the materials and refreshments.

Christmas Market

Where? Carlisle City Centre

Quirky Eclectica Christmas Fayre

Where? Carlisle Cathedral

When? Friday 1st December, 10:00-20:00 and Saturday 2nd December, 10:00-16:00

Find perfect Christmas gifts for your loved ones from local Artisan sellers. A great way to support small businesses and find something special for family, friends, and even yourself!

Paint Nativity Stones

Where? Fratry Undercroft at Carlisle Cathedral

When? Monday 4th December, 10:30-11:30

Entry is free, but donations are welcome. Try your hand at painting a Nativity Scene on Stones, with free tea and coffee provided.

Jack and the Beanstalk Panto

Where? Harraby Theatre

When? Friday 8th to Sunday 10th December

Tickets are just £5, and this is a great opportunity to get down to a panto - especially as The Sands Centre has had to extend its auditorium closure.

The Winter City Walking Tour

Where? Tours start at Carlisle Railway Station

When? Saturday 16th December, 13:00-14:30

Tours are £8 per adult, with a free coffee from Watts Coffee Shop included.

Christmas Jumper Race Day

Where? Carlisle Racecourse

Admission prices from £16.50 with access to all public areas on the ground floor, including all eateries.

Christmas Family Crafts

Where? Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery

When? Wednesday 20th December to Friday 22nd December, 13:00-16:00

Get down to Tullie House to enjoy some Christmas crafts. Plus, children are free with adult admission.
