Squidgy's Birthday Party | Stocks Wood Outdoor Centre

When Squidgy turned 6, it was difficult to decide how to celebrate. Munchkin's early arrival meant I didn’t really feel up to hosting a group of loud, excitable girls at home! Instead (and with a little help from my parents) we were able to organise and pay for her to party with her friends at Stocks Wood Outdoor Centre and they had an absolute blast.

Julian and Claire not only have an amazing set up, but have a special gift for providing a second-to-none experience at their forest school. If you're in the North Cumbria area, I highly recommend their parties (and not just because they're my uncle and aunt!) Here's what the girls got up to at Squidgy's party.

Woodland party activities

From ‘Green Man’ to ‘Jack Frost’ there are plenty of woodland games that Julian and Claire have for the children to play as well as other activities at the ready for birthday parties.

Knot tying

One of John's favourite things is teaching Squidgy knots, and she and her friends thought it was a great activity at the party!

Lighting fires

After being shown how to light their fires and given a few safety instructions each of the children had a chance to light their own. Even Pickle gave it a good go (although she ended up needing help from my cousin!)

Toasting marshmallows

Who doesn’t love toasting marshmallows over an open fire?

Hot chocolate, stories and a sing-a-long

After sitting the children down for a cup of hot chocolate, Julian not only read them a story but cracked out his ukulele and sang with them too. Of all the songs they could choose, Hedgehog Poo is a firm favourite… such a silly song (have a listen if you don't believe me) yet they all loved it.

Flow-time

During ‘flow-time’ there are a number of activities the children can do from chilling out in the hammocks to searching for fairies on Fairy Lane. As it was her party there was a few activities Squidgy wanted to do…

Archery

Squidgy absolutely loved this (as did all the girls) and even Pickle had a chance to have a go!

Pond dipping

It's cold and at this time of year there isn't too much to find but the girls were happy to discover a few pond creatures including water boatman and pond snails.

Lunch time

We provided lunch ourselves, making up little woodland themed lunch boxes for each of the girls. With sandwiches, snacks and a carton of juice it was a great way to finish off the day and Squidgy couldn't have been happier.

I am so pleased that we organised to have the party at Stocks Wood Outdoor Centre. It took the pressure off me and each of the children had an amazing time. If you're interested in throwing a party their for your child, all the details are on their website here.
