Celebrating Love in Lockdown | Valentine's Day with Moonpig

Disclaimer: Although we've bought lots of cards and gifts from Moonpig over the years; I was sent a selection of Valentine's gifts and a gift voucher to help create this post. The review words and opinions are my own. All photos are copyright property of Me Becoming Mum.

Lockdown is a strange time, isn't it? We’re all trying to navigate a world we don't even recognise anymore. From not being able to socialise, to seeing pubs and restaurants close their doors, and many other things we’re missing out on. Despite this, I want to show you how you can still celebrate your love this Valentine's Day including a few bonus ideas from Moonpig.

Date night ideas

Get outdoors

Just remember, during this lockdown it can only be once for exercise at the moment. Lockdown puts a lot of pressure on all of us, and getting out for exercise and fresh air is good for everyone's mental health. Walk hand in hand and breath in the crisp winter's air before heading home to snuggle up together and warm up (because let's be honest, it's freezing at this time of year.) I'll be honest, this may sound more romantic than in reality, especially if you have to share it with loud and lively children who need your supervision. However we'll roll with it!

Cook their favourite meal

Especially if they usually cook

In our house, John is the one who usually cooks. He is amazing, and makes lush, fresh homemade meals for us all. I think a date night, for Valentine's Day or otherwise, is a great time to reverse the roles and cook up a storm in the kitchen with their favourite meal. I’m pretty sure John's choice would be steak and chips! Why not make it extra special with a glass of wine, their favourite tipple or even by lighting a soft scented Yankee candle.

Champagne and canapés

Staying in is the new going out

We may not have chosen to have to stay in, but as the lockdown rules and closures prevent us heading for a night out, why not recreate it at home instead? There is nothing wrong with getting all dressed up, - high heels and all - and having a night of champagne and canapés. Moonpig can help with this too thanks to their variety of champers, prosecco, wine and even Edinburgh Gin's Valentine's gin if you prefer cocktails and canapés instead!

Sweet scents and hot soaks

I love a good soak in the bath. Showers are for hygiene and baths are for relaxing - in my opinion anyway! Want to let your partner know you love them? Give them time to enjoy a long, muscle soaking, calming bath before any date night, it's bound to work. Bonus points for miles of bubbles, steaming hot water and delicious smelling Miss Patisserie pamper letterbox bath slabs (which fizz and foam and are absolutely amazing!)

P.S. These slabs come as part of a gift set from Moonpig and and the perfect pamper kit for your lover. Plus they’re vegan friendly!

Have an early night

I know this is easier said than done for those of us with children, but it is worth a try! It can be easy to just chill in front of the TV in the evening, exhausted from a day of homeschooling, loud, boisterous (slightly feral) children, housework and more but instead, why not head to bed with your other half? If you're feeling a little adventurous you can even check out Moonpig's 18+ gifts from novelty sweets to books to give you a helping hand.

Don't forget a gift (or two)

You can't go wrong with flowers

Moonpig flowers and plants are beautiful, and with such a wide range to choose from you are bound to find something to suit your budget and your lover. From gorgeous spring blooms to romantic red roses I'm pretty sure you are bound to find something you (and they) will love. They arrive well packaged, safe and in bud (to last for longer!) Place the flowers in a vase and enjoy stunning fresh flowers at home for at least five days.

Chocolates are always a winner

Or a sweet treat, anyway!

Is there really a better gift than one which you can eat? I think you'll all agree with me when I say that lockdown is not a time to be stingy with the treats… if anything it's a time to allow yourself to indulge. We have to enjoy something, right? From chocolates and fudge to sweets and even shortbread Moonpig has you covered when it comes to satisfying that sweet tooth for a Valentine's Day in lockdown.

If you live apart

Order gifts straight to their door

Lockdown has made it harder than ever for those in a relationship who live apart. From those with partners in the forces, to the many who are in the early stages of dating. Trying to keep the spark alive when you're apart from the one you love is no easy task, so why not send a reminder of your love straight to their door? Moonpig have a wide variety of gifts from alcohol and chocolates to flowers and soft toys which can be sent to you or another address, all you have to do is choose where to send it and input the details!

Don't forget the card

I'm pretty sure you won't forget, but a card is something that everyone should remember. Moonpig Valentine's Day cards are the perfect choice this year for a number of reasons, including:
  • You can choose a design to suit you and your partner. From the loved-up soppy ones to the downright cheeky, there is a card design to suit every couple.

  • You can choose the size too. Whether you just want a budget friendly small card, or upgrade to a giant, in-your-face, totally extra card Moonpig have you covered.

  • You can personalised the card. From adding your own photos, to writing a soppy message to your loved one inside these cards can be adapted to your preferences.

  • You can get it delivered direct to them. Just the same as with their gifts, Moonpig allow you to select where to send the card you choose, either to you or directly to your lover.

Whether you celebrate Valentine's Day, or choose to use these ideas just to have a date night I hope I've inspired you with a few ways to keep the spark alive during lockdown.
