Whitley Bay Holiday Park | Parkdean Resorts

Another weekend, another quick trip over to our new favouite holiday haunt. Unlike our last weekend away for our wedding anniversary (when we booked a visit to Cresswell Towers Holiday Park), this time we decided to head a little further South to Whitley Bay Holiday Park to celebrate Father's Day and check out a new area of Northumberland. Read on to discover everything you need to know about this holiday park.

The Caravan

The caravan was pretty standard, with all the usual amenities we've become accustomed to at these parks. Whitely Bay is certainly not our first rodeo (and I doubt it will be our last!)

Here are a few things about choosing the caravan that you may want to consider if you want to book a visit.

  • Extra wide models are preferable in my opinion, we found the standard ones too narrow.

  • An ensuite toilet is worth it if you can, having an extra toilet when there are 6 of us staying (including a toilet training toddler) is essential.

  • If you're going away with children, cots and bed linen can be provided. However we bring bed guards and back out blinds.

  • Again, whilst size crockery, cutlery and glassware can be found in the caravan, if you're heading over with children don't forget to take sippy cups, cutlery and anything else you feel they may need depending on their age.

The check in process

In a post-Covid world, things are a little different to the way they used to me. Gone are the days of face-to-face check in, and instead there is a super easy check in system online. Once you arrive at your caravan it is sealed up, you break the seal and find the keys and entertainment passes inside.

What's available at Whitley Bay Holiday Park?

The arcade

As per usual, one of the children's favourite things to do at the holiday park was the arcade. 2p machines are a fun way to keep them occupied for a wee while. Plus, if you fancy putting a little more money in, there are fruit machines and games to play too.

The playground

The play area at Whitley Bay is one of the nicest we've come across on our caravan holiday adventures. There are areas for all different ages to enjoy and all four children enjoyed the time we spent there.

The restaurant

Although we didn't make use of the restaurant, it's nice to know it's available complete with a bar!

Other facilities too

From the indoor heated pool, to the outdoor eating spaces and of course the evening entertainment available in the showbar; Whitley Bay has something to offer for everyone.

In the local area

The beach

Just a short 5 (ish) minute walk from the caravan park will bring you to the local beach. If you're looking for a quick, easy, and free day out close to the holiday park this is ideal. Head over to discover cliff top walks, rock pools and of course miles of beautiful sandy beaches.

A plethora of Northumberland days out

Northumberland, like our homeland of Cumbria, has plenty of wonderful days out for all the family.

  • If you have a National Trust membership, free days out can be found at manor houses like Seaton Delaval Hall and Washington Old Hall or even the Souter Lighthouse or local monuments.

  • Alternatively, Tynemouth Priory and Castle, Prudhoe Castle and Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens are just three of Northumberland's English Heritage day out options.

  • Of course you don't have to have a membership to National Trust or English Heritage to find places to visit nearby. If you head north a little, The Alnwick Garden, Alnwick Castle, Northumberland Country Zoo and more make great days out.

With that, I close out another post full of memories of a wonderful family-friendly weekend away. If you're looking to visit Northumberland with your family, Whitley Bay Holiday Park would make a great place to stay.
