If you're anything like us, the countdown to Christmas is well underway by now. It's likely you'll be thinking about Christmas eve (the night the big man in red fills up our stockings); and trying to figure out what to pop inside. Well, fret not! I’ve got you covered with some great stocking filler ideas for under 5s right here.

Something to relax together

Bath time fun

As my girls get older they are starting to love things that I enjoy too… such as face masks and bath bombs. Did you know you can get child-friendly versions? John picked up some My Little Pony versions for each of the girls' stockings this year. They aren't too expensive either and guess where they're from? Primark!

Something squishy like a stress-ball

This may seem like an odd choice for a children's stocking filler gift guide, but stick with it! Adults aren’t the only ones who sometimes need a stress ball or something to fiddle with and Squeezamals* are a great choice for children's stocking fillers. Available from Amazon† this super cute soft toy is a fabulous stocking filler idea for kids.

They come in a variety of animals and colours; they smell lovely and best of all they a soft, cuddly and squishy. I know my girls are going to love them (especially as penguins are Pickle's favourite animal!)

Something useful

Headlamp

Have you noticed how dark it's been getting since the clocks changed? I swear it's like 1 hour difference is actually 5 hours. In fact we're only in November and already it's getting dark as we head home from school in the afternoon just after 3pm. As far as useful stocking fillers for children go, a compact headlamp is just the item you need for this time of year. My favourite features of the GP Batteries multiuse compact headlamp* include:
  • You can choose from four bright colours.

  • It can also be used as a bag clip.

  • The range is up to 8 meters.

  • You can choose high, low and flashing settings, perfect for adjusting it to use on the school run or even when Squidgy goes for outdoor, evening Beavers adventures.

Plasters

Let's be honest, every household probably goes through boxes of plasters. Children aren't always as careful as we may wish them to be. You deal with bumps, bruises, cuts and scrapes a-plenty as a parent and so adding Elastoplast Paw Patrol plasters* to your children's stockings is a great idea. If you don't have a Paw Patrol fan, however, there are other designs available too including Frozen, Disney princesses, Mickey Mouse and even Star Wars.

Toothbrushes

Adding a toothbrush or two to my children's stockings is a yearly occurrance. You have seen that we are making more of an eco-effort (beyond just by using cloth nappies!) so this year's stocking filler is a little different. We've gone for Blue Rock Living’s bamboo toothbrushes*. You can purchase them as a one off or subscription; they come in adult and children's sizes; are a variety of colours; and best of all Blue Rock Living is a small, family-run business!

Something with their favourite characters

Frozen II jewellery and colouring set

I’m pretty sure most every child has got the Frozen bug and is super excited about Frozen II being on its way. Pop down to Primark, Matalan, Asda and more; and they have a huge range of Frozen II merch for sale. We picked up these rings and the colouring set for our girls from Primark and I think they are the perfect addition to any child's stocking this Christmas.

Something for fun

Blume dolls*

Have you heard of Blume dolls* yet? If not, I doubt it will be long before one or more of your children are talking about them. All you have to do is water them and watch as you discover which doll is inside. There are 22 different dolls to collect. They are available pretty much anywhere from Smyths to Amazon† to The Entertainer to Argos.

Hatchimals CollEGGtibles

I can't be the only one who has Hatchimals mad children, right? I picked up two packs of season 3 collEGGtibles from Matalan in the sale for my girls to have a pack each. I know with 100% certainty that the are going to put a smile on both their faces. You can buy them all over the place in pretty much any store that sells toys, but if you prefer to buy online why not order from Amazon†?

Foodie Roos*

These Foodie Roos* from John Adam’s are an awesome new addition to this year's Christmas stockings. Not only are they super cute, in a variety of designs from strawberries to chips but they actually smell like the food! Honestly, I cannot explain my surprise at the strength and lush-ness (probably not a word, but roll with it) of the scent produced.

You can buy them in most toy shops, Claire's and (of course) on Amazon†.

Lucky fortune*

Lucky Fortune bracelets from WowWee are new, and fab. There are 100 different designs to collect, including everything from chips to rainbows and hashtags to unicorns. Whether you buy them individually or go for a four pack† (which is a slightly more budget-friendly option if you have more than one child) these are definitely a go-to for stocking fillers for children this Christmas.

Something for eaTing

Chocolate (obviously)

I don't think this really needs any explanation! Choose your children's favourite chocolate and slip it inside their stocking… from gift packs (which I'll open and put in individually) to tubes and more, there are plenty of options to top up the stocking. Plus you don't have to break the bank. I do the chocolate, sweets and snack shops for stockings in Poundland!

An egg cosy

It doesn’t have to be edible to be included in this section! Why not pick out a fun accessory to spice up meal times? Sous Chef's handmade Hot Dog egg warmer* is both funny and useful and definitely a great addition to my stocking fillers for kids under 5! They also have other designs including a chicken and whale, so why not start a collection?

Something crafty

Little Brian Mini Paint Sticks

My girls LOVE to get crafty. Whether it's gluing, cutting, drawing, stamping or painting; they'll put their hand to anything and enjoy every second. For me, the mess is something I struggle with. With Little Brian mini paint sticks* mess is one thing I don't have to worry about. You don't need water or paint brushes, they come in loads of different colours (and different pack sizes!) and are perfect for a crafty activity which needs minimal supervision (although my table cloth might disagree!) As far as stocking fillers for children go, these are definitely a winner for me.

So, there you go! A lovely variety of stocking filler ideas for children under 5. I hope I have given you some inspiration to get your Christmas shopping and stocking filling done.

Wishing you a very Happy Christmas from my family and me this year!
